WHY THIS TRIP
Hacienda Zuleta is one of the oldest working haciendas in Ecuador, dating from the late 1600s, and steeped in pre-Columbian, Spanish, and Ecuadorian traditional culture and history. The Hacienda has been owned by the same family for over a hundred years, and they’ve received dignitaries and guests into their home for over a hundred years. The owners work closely with the local community to keep the hacienda thriving. Here you’ll have the chance to learn about traditional arts & crafts, cheese making, see Andean condors, and go horseback riding with chagras (cowboys).
Located two hours north of Quito, Hacienda Zuleta is a colonial working farm of 4,000 acres that belongs to the family of Mr. Galo Plaza lasso, a former president of Ecuador. In the family for more than 100 years, the hacienda has beautifully decorated bedrooms, antique gardens delicious Ecuadorian cuisine and a great variety of activities and places to visit on the grounds or nearby. The Plaza Lasso family and the community welcome you to their home and invite you to share in their life on the hacienda.
