This two-day trip includes a one-day trek on the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with second day to explore the ruins with your guide. The train from Cusco drops you and your guide at km 104 along the Inca Trail. From there you trek along the Inca Trail until you reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where you get your first view of Machu Picchu and you enter the ruins.
A complete network of interconnecting roads linked Cusco to its provinces and other kingdoms and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was part of that system. The two-day Winay Wayna trip is a great way to trek the final section of the Inca Trail and enter Machu Picchu just as the Incas did.

Abbreviated Itinerary
Day One: Train to km 104 on Inca Trail. Trek to Machu Picchu. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
Day Two: Morning tour of Machu Picchu. Afternoon train back to Cusco. ...see full itinerary
From Cusco or Ollantaytambo to Km 104 we travel by Vistadome or Backpacker train. Upon reaching Km 104 we cross the Urubamba river and head for the archaeological complex of Choquesuysuy where we will pass through the Inca Trail control point. Here the trail climbs slowly to half-way up the mountain where we arrive at Wiñay Wayna, surrounded by lush vegetation. We pass a high waterfall where we can cool off. The Wiñay Wayna complex was once inhabited by farmers who used terraces to reclaim these steep slopes for agriculture. That afternoon we will continue along the trail to Machupicchu , enjoying along the way the spectacular scenery, with the river far below, and the snowy peaks emerging from the surrounding cloud forest. Following a path which is very narrow in places, we eventually arrive at the Sun Gate above Machupicchu from where we will get our first glimpse of the ruins below us. From here it is a forty minute walk to Machupicchu. We will stay at a hotel close to the ruins or in the village of Aguas Calientes (hotel not included).
Day 2: Machu Picchu
We will get up early to visit this lost city which was rediscovered in 1911. This citadel, standing at the top of a steep, forested hill overlooking the Urubamba River, was hidden by dense vegetation for centuries until Hiram Bingham began to clear the site. Today the city has been completely restored and even if it has lost some of its mystery it still remains an unforgettable sight. Our tour includes a visit to the temples, plazas, palaces, watercourses and residential areas and will also leave you time to explore the ruins on your own. Return to Cusco by train, transfer to hotel.

TESTIMONIALS
I would recommend this trip to a friend in a second. The trip to the Galapagos was Outstanding. The Letty was wonderful; the naturalists were the greatest; the food was superb; the crew excellent; (I\'m running out of adjectives) I would recommend the whole thing and your agency also. You really provided excellent service and information. I felt I could email or call you with any questions and I knew you would answer quickly and I felt honestly. For just taking a chance finding you on the internet, I was very fortunate.

The Inca trail trek can only be described as magical. I tried my best to be cynical, but it didn’t work. This trip was pure magic and absolutely perfect.
The logistics of the trip were impeccable. The ground transportation was on time and they made sure I was able to obtain my boarding pass and pay the airport tax at each leg of the trip.
Out on the hike, my guide Oswaldo was fabulous.
The food on the trail was amazing. The chef created simple and fresh meals that were bursting with local flavor.

Just returned from Costa Rica last night ... trip was a GREAT SUCCESS! We all thank you VERY MUCH for arranging the trip.

We’ve been home just over a week now and I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you just how fantastically well everything went! Ok, so we did end up paying the full whack (which I’ve decided just not to think about!). However, we had a fantastic guide and everything ran really smoothly and we had a fantastic time. From being collected from the hotel (Vieja Cuba which was lovely) to being looked after once we got to the Galapagos it was all just perfect, so thank you very much for being an important part of our fabulous trip.
Cheers Greg !
