Enjoy a deluxe visit to the Galapagos Islands on the brand-new, 110 foot steel-hulled motor schooner Beluga. The Beluga is fully air-conditioned and accommodates 16 passengers in double staterooms, each with private bathroom and shower.

The well-trained and experienced crew of 7 takes very good care of their guests at all times aboard and ashore. The Beluga is a very spacious and comfortable yacht with lots of deck space. Enjoy the advantages of a small group of up to sixteen passengers with those of a luxury yacht, as our small-sized groups allow visitors to see the best sites, some of which are off limits to large cruise ships.

The Beluga features attentive service and delicious cuisine. Her top-notch crew includes a multi-lingual naturalist guide trained and licensed by the Galapagos National Park Service and the Charles Darwin Research Station. Enjoy beautiful days cruising through the islands...spot dolphins and whales...snorkel with the sea lions...see birds with blue feet, red feet or big red 'balloons' on their necks...enjoy the scenery and volcanoes...and marvel at the colorful beaches. Come, relax and have fun on our new vessel.

Travelling aboard a yacht assures a unique experience in the islands and allows visitors to appreciate their mystery and tranquility. Leaning over the bow, passengers can watch the dolphins playing on the bow wave just a few feet away... or relax on deck in a quiet anchorage ... wander along a desolate beach watching the ghost crabs scuttle into their holes, while boobies and pelicans wheel and dive just beyond the surf.

Highlights

16 passenger yacht with 8 air conditioned double cabins with private hot water showers.
Luxurious way to experience the Galapagos.
See beautiful Galapagos scenery.

Galapagos on the Beluga

by Rodney, No Experience, Jul 14, 2008

Great trip! I took my wife and 14 year old daughter and we had a great time. The naturalist was very informative and the crew and kitchen staff were exceptional. They really went out of their way to accommodate us. This was a once in a lifetime experience and I highly recommend it. Detour was also exceptional in their service and was very responsive to our needs.

4 Days on the Beluga

by Katherine, Expert, May 23, 2007

I just got back from the Beluga and couldn't believe what an experience I could have in four days. The service, the crew and the guide, Juan Carlos provided us with amazing service. Each day we visited a different island for a nature walk and went snorkeling twice (if you wanted to).

I had the impression that the islands were somewhat identical, but I soon found out how wrong I was. The landscape was strikingly different and we all soon became fascinated with the new vegetation found in different places. I really appreciated that our walks were in the morning or late afternoon so the light was beautiful and we weren't too hot.

Every 50 yards, there seemed to be something new: wave albatross laying its egg, a sea lion rolling into the water, or a foggy lagoon filled with flamingos. Our guide was an expert at letting us wander the area on our own and then describing what we were witnessing. For instance, during one walk along a shore, he slowed down just enough so that we all began to notice the broken shells in the sand. It turned out to be a sea turtle nesting area and it felt a bit as if had discovered this miraculous place on our own.

The snorkeling was my absolute favorite- our crew and Juan Carlos were excellent at preparing us for the outing and explaining what we were seeing.

I found the boat comfortable and fun for hanging out. Our cabins were nice, but no one wanted to spend time indoors when there was so much to do! But of course, none of us missed a meal-- the food definitely exceeded my expectations.

The only downside was that I had to leave so early! I could have easily stayed another month watching fragate birds, swimming with sea lions, and learning about this great place.

Provider FAQ's

Q: Where are the Galapagos Islands?
A: The Galapagos Islands (or Archipelago de Colon) is a Province of Ecuador located 600 miles (1000 kilometers) west of the Ecuadorian coast. They lie directly on the equator.

Q: What is the climate like?
A: As the islands lie directly on the Equator, you can expect it to be warm for most of the year. The hottest season is generally from December to April with average temperatures ranging from a low of 70 to a high of 84 F (22 - 31 C). It is during this period that you may expect short but heavy showers. The sea is generally calm this time of the year and the water temperature warmer. May to November is considered the "cool" season with average temperatures ranging from a low of 68 to a high of 82 F (19 – 27 C).

Q: How do we get there?
A: From North America and Europe there are daily flights to Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Q: How do we get to Galapagos from Quito and Guayaquil?
A: Flights to Galapagos depart daily from both Quito and Guayaquil. We will arrange the Galapagos flight for you. As boat owners in Galapagos we will block book spaces on those flights to ensure our passengers are on the flight to meet the boat.

Q: May we fly to Galapagos from Quito and just back to Guayaquil (or vice versa)?
A: Yes, we would be able to arrange that for you.

Q: Are all your prices in US dollars?
A: All of our rates are quoted in US dollars.

Q: What is included in the rates for the boats?
A: The boat rates includes accommodations and all meals aboard the boat, island sightseeing, all guide and lecture services, transfers in the islands and between the airport and yacht in Galapagos.

There is also a $25 US departure tax from Ecuador on all international flights.

Q: Can you make hotel and other tour reservations for us in Ecuador?
A: Yes! We will be glad to plan an efficient itinerary and all arrangements that will make the most of the time you have available and at a price you can afford.

Q: How do we receive our vouchers and tickets for the Galapagos and/or mainland Ecuador?
A: We will e-mail (if requested) a receipt and voucher that is valid for all arrangements with us. The ticket for the Galapagos flight will be issued to you once you are in Ecuador.

A: All of the boats we use employ highly experienced and qualified level II and III naturalist guides who are fluent in English (and often other languages as well).

Q: How much should we tip the guide and crew?
A: We recommend that you consider tipping 1) the guide, 2) kitchen staff and 3) the rest of the crew. As a general rule-of- thumb, we recommend between $5 - $8 US from each passenger to each group per day. If you have received very good and exceptional service, please be more generous!

Q: Will there be time for snorkeling?
A: There is plenty of time for snorkeling for those who are interested. Snorkeling gear is provided on our boats. For personal hygiene, we recommend that you bring your own gear.

A: We charge charge a nominal rental fee $ 15 for 8 days aboard our boats.

Q: How many kilos of luggage can I bring to the Galapagos?

A: No, a wetsuit is not necessary, but we suggest that you bring a 2mm "shorty" to help keep you warm in colder waters in the months of June through November.

Q: Will we have to exchange any money before we travel to Ecuador or once in the country?

6. Refunds and Compensation

As a basic principle, no refund will be made for any unused hotel accommodation, service or transport. However, where we ourselves are able to obtain a refund from hotels or principals for services not used, we will endeavor to pass this onto the client, less reasonable administration charges. EE's responsibility will not extend beyond this refund (where possible) and no payments will be made, or compensation given in respect of claims for contingent liability or inconvenience experienced by clients. No refund can be made on lost, mislaid or destroyed tickets or vouchers.
