Detour, The Adventure Travel Marketplace - Easy Cancellation

EASY CANCELLATION

Need to cancel your trip? No problem!

Shop online with the comfort of knowing it is simple to cancel your trip, and that if you cancel more than 60 days before your trip's start date you will receive a full refund.   Should you need to cancel within 60 days of your trip the local travel provider's cancellation policies will apply.   Note, however, that Detour makes it easy for you to switch passengers up to seven days before the trip launch date to help you avoid cancellation fees.

Cancellation more than 60 days before your trip start date

If you need to cancel your trip more than 60 days before the trip start date, you will receive a full refund.   It's that simple.

Cancellation within 61 days of your trip start date

Because Detour is a marketplace that sells local travel provider's trips and does not operate any trips itself, and because we do not impose our policies on our providers, we follow each provider's cancellation policies regarding cancellation of their trips within 60 days of the start date. Please see the Provider's Policies tab on the trip you would like to cancel.   Generally speaking, however, if you cancel your trip 31-60 days before the trip start date there is a penalty of 50% of the trip cost, and if you cancel within 30 days before the trip the penalty is 100% of the trip cost and there is no refund whatsoever for any reason.

Change Passengers On a Trip

You can change passengers on any trip by updating the passenger information up to seven (7) days before the trip start date.   This means that if you or one of the other members of your party cannot make it on a trip you can replace that person with another traveler at no cost, and thus avoid cancellation penalties!

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance can help protect you in the event an unplanned medical condition forces you to cancel your trip within 60 days of the trip departure date.   Detour highly recommends that you purchase Travel Insurance that includes emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage, as well as trip cancellation (for covered reasons only), interruption and delay coverage, baggage loss and delay protection, and worldwide emergency assistance.   Trip cancellation coverage will protect you if you become ill or injured prior to your trip.

Travel Guard Essential

Detour recommends Travel Guard Essential , or similar coverage, where you receive basic coverage in the event of unforeseeable trip related expenses such as:

•  Trip cancellation, interruption and delay

•  Emergency medical treatment or evacuation

•  Lost, stolen or damaged baggage or personal effects

•  Baggage delay

Travel Guard Essential Expanded Coverage if purchased within 15 days of initial trip deposit

If you purchase within fifteen days of your initial deposit, you have the option of purchasing  Travel Guard's Essential Expanded Coverage which includes all the coverage in the Travel Guard Essential , plus the following:

•  Coverage for financial default of an airline, a cruise line or tour operator. (Financial default is not covered for all travel suppliers.)

•  Coverage for pre-exisiting medical conditions that could eventually cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip.

•  Coverage for a terrorist incident in a city listed on your itinerary within 30 days of your scheduled arrival.

•  Flight Guard: This addition of $25,000 will cover you in the event of loss of life while you are traveling in the air.

•  Family Coverage: One child 16 or under will receive coverage for every adult that purchases this travel insurance protection plan at no additional cost.

TESTIMONIALS

The Inca trail trek can only be described as magical. I tried my best to be cynical, but it didn’t work. This trip was pure magic and absolutely perfect. The logistics of the trip were impeccable. The ground transportation was on time and they made sure I was able to obtain my boarding pass and pay the airport tax at each leg of the trip. Out on the hike, my guide Oswaldo was fabulous. The food on the trail was amazing. The chef created simple and fresh meals that were bursting with local flavor.

Just returned from Costa Rica last night ... trip was a GREAT SUCCESS! We all thank you VERY MUCH for arranging the trip.

We’ve been home just over a week now and I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you just how fantastically well everything went! Ok, so we did end up paying the full whack (which I’ve decided just not to think about!). However, we had a fantastic guide and everything ran really smoothly and we had a fantastic time. From being collected from the hotel (Vieja Cuba which was lovely) to being looked after once we got to the Galapagos it was all just perfect, so thank you very much for being an important part of our fabulous trip. Cheers Greg !

We had a great time on the Galapagos Cruise. Our guides were very engaging and informative and everything was timed just right. We had the right amount of activity, food and leisure time every day. We are not \"cruising\" people and were apprehensive at first about being stuck on a boat for 7 days but we didn\'t feel \"stuck\" given the number of excursions we had each day and the fact that we snorkeled at least once or twice a day. We also extended our trip on the Islands and stayed at a hotel but definitely would recommend a cruise over staying on the islands. The islands gets very hot and there are lots of mosquitos but on the boat there is shade, wind and no bugs! Great amount of variety of animals and geography we saw. Sad to leave!
