Isabela Island (Albermarle):
The largest island in the Galapagos Archipelago and is over 100 kms long and extremely narrow. Six volcanoes are found on Isabella, of which two are over 1,700 meters, which are Wolf and Cerro Azul. Due to its dramatic landscape and fascinating geological formations, Isabela is truly one of the most beautiful islands in the archipelago. All but one of its six volcanoes are active, making it one of the earth's most volcanically active spots.
Isabela is home to the most wild tortoises in the Galapagos Islands. The lava flows have created barriers to the tortoises; this separation resulted in a number of tortoise subspecies on Isabela.
The most commonly visited sites are Punta Garcia to see the Flightless Cormorants, Volcano Alcedo for Land Tortoises, Tagus Cove for Blue Footed Boobies, Flightless Cormorant, Galapagos Penguins and Marine Iguanas, and Urbina Bay for Marine Turtles.
The third-largest human settlement of the archipelago, Puerto Villamil, is located at the south-eastern tip of the island. There are tourist accommodations here, such as hotels and restaurants; however, the is not "touristy" like Puerto Ayora.
