Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do about altitude sickness in Patagonia?

Generally, you should not be overly concerned about altitude sickness in Patagonia because the elevation is not too great for many popular hikes.  However, if you are climbing higher than 3000 m, then you should take precautions.

If you are in generally good health, then you can usually prevent or alleviate altitude sickness fairly easily.  The best way to avoid altitude sickness is to ascend slowly.  However, since most travelers are flying directly into a high altitude destination, this isn't an option.

If you have more specific concerns, respiratory problems, previous health concerns, or have had serious trouble with altitude sickness in the past, please contact your primary care physician for recommendation.
