There is an ATM in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz, but reportedly it often doesn't work or is out of money, so it is best to not rely on it. If you are staying on the islands and will be paying for your own meals, plan on about $15 per meal, per person, on average. Of course if you like better restaurants you will have to pay more than this.
Unless you have pre-paid for your Galapapagos Park entrance fee, you will need $100 cash ($50 for children and students with student cards) just to enter the islands. There will also be a new $10 fee that also must be paid with cash in advance.
Most activities like scuba diving and boat tours can be paid with credit cards, but you might want a bit of extra cash just in case.
Then of course there is the issue of tips for your guides and staff, and you must pay cash for extras like drinks on yacht trips.
