Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail have reopened again following January's flooding that damaged the train access to Machu Picchu, and Inca Trail season is operating normally. Inca Trail permits generally sell out 4-6 months in advance, especially for the busy summer holiday season.
Currently (as of April 22, 2010) permits are sold out until mid August, with only limited availability for the end of August. Permit availability is pretty good from September through the end of the year, but this can change quickly. Book as soon as possible to guarantee space on your Inca Trail trip.
